Auto-updatingWhat This Tool Shows
This page is a demonstration of a live visitor counter — the kind of widget you might see on airport screens, tourism boards or travel sites. It shows three things:
- Estimated visitors in the UK right now — a live number that changes every second.
- Arrivals and departures per minute — how many visitors are estimated to be entering and leaving the UK right now.
- A rolling activity feed — a live, scrolling list of illustrative arrivals and departures from around the world.
Why isn't this real data?
There is no public, real-time feed of "everyone currently in the UK who isn't a resident." The UK does not publish this — the closest official data comes from the Office for National Statistics and the Home Office, both of which publish monthly or annual figures, not live numbers.
So this tool simulates a live counter using realistic rates, to show what such a tool could look like if the data were available.
How the simulation works
The counter starts from a base number (roughly the number of visitors the UK has on a typical day) and applies small random changes every second — some seconds more people arrive than leave, some seconds more leave. Occasionally, a whole planeload arrives or departs at once, causing a visible jump.
Over a full day, the total nets out to a realistic pattern, with a peak in the late morning and early afternoon UK time, when arrivals from the US, Europe and Asia overlap.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the UK Live Visitor Counter real data?
No. This is an illustrative live counter. The numbers are simulated in your browser to demonstrate how a real-time visitor counter would look. They are not official statistics. For official UK migration and tourism figures, see the Office for National Statistics and VisitBritain.
How many visitors are in the UK on a typical day?
The UK receives roughly 40 million overseas visitors per year, averaging around 110,000 per day. At any given moment, the number actually present in the country is estimated at 400,000–500,000, because visitors stay for several days.
Why does the counter sometimes go down?
Because visitors leave as well as arrive. On some seconds, more people depart than arrive, so the total drops. Across a full day, arrivals and departures roughly balance out.
What's the peak number of visitors in a day?
The simulation tracks a daily peak, typically in the late morning or early afternoon UK time, when arrivals from the US, Europe and Asia overlap.
Can I use this counter on my own website?
Yes. You can adapt the code for your own site, provided you label it as illustrative or simulated so users don't mistake it for official data.
Where can I find real UK visitor data?
Official UK visitor and migration data is published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the Home Office, and VisitBritain. These are monthly or annual figures, not live numbers.
